The Hovering Holy Spirit

THE HOVERING HOLY SPIRIT

Presently, we are witnessing an awakening in the Church across America; people are experiencing revival. God is moving in our local church. Many say they have not felt the presence and power of God like this for decades. Others have never known such an anointed time. For the last two months people have been crowding the altar, praying fervently, experiencing miracles and worshipping with abandonment. The wind of the Holy Spirit is blowing upon the young and the old. It is an answer to prayer and a fulfillment of prophecy.

DAYS OF VISITATION

Whatever you need to do, I strongly encourage you not to miss the day of your visitation from the Lord. If you are notexperiencing this move of God where you live, then travel as often as you can, to participate in church gatherings whereGod is moving. There is a time when we should press in, witha hunger and a thirst, for more of God’s manifest presence. This is that time.

HEAVEN CANNOT CONTAIN YOU

How can God, who created the universe, be so personal with us? He made more than one hundred trillionplanets, spanning over 13 billion light years of space. The Bible says,“But will God really dwell on earth withmen? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain you. How much less this temple Ihave built!”2Chron. 6:18

King Solomon asked the question, “Will God really dwell onearth with men?” He asked this when he finished building the temple. As he was dedicating it, the Lord responded. Thefire of God fell and lit the sacrifice. The cloud of God’s glory filled the temple and it was so powerful that the priests couldnot enter or stand. All of Israel fell on their faces and worshipped God.

It is so amazing; God, who is bigger than the universe, made mankind for fellowship, in thefullness of His presence.

THE HOVERING HOLY SPIRIT

From the beginning, the Spirit of God hovered over the face of the water. The earth was without form.It was void of life and contained no light, but God came down to the atmosphere of this tiny planetand chose it to be our dwelling place.

He instructed Moses to build the Ark of The Covenant, Then, He came and hovered over it,between the golden Cherubim. He said He wouldmeet with us there.

Again, He hoveredover the entire temple, filling it with His presence. He hovered over the threshold(the entrance way) so that all the people could see His glory (see Ezekiel 10:18-19).

When Jesus was baptized by John, the Holy Spiritdescended in the form of a dove and hovered over Him. The Holy Spirit remained for some time hovering over the Lord..“And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love;with him I am well pleased.’” Mt. 3:17

“‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize withthe Holy Spirit.’” Jn. 1:33

On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon thedisciples and hovered over each of them in what looked like flamesof fire. They were all filled with theHoly Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spiritenabled them (see Acts 2:3-4).

HOVERING AGAIN

During times of heartfelt worship, we experience the manifest presence of the Lord, but there were times throughout history when God poured out His HolySpirit in a more powerful way.

Jesus always had the Holy Spirit, but when He was baptized inwater, the Holy Spirit was manifest in a more powerful way.

Before the day of Pentecost, the disciples had experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit, but suddenly, on that day, God’spresence became more intense.

We should be careful not to downplay what is happening,because of our past or present experience with the Holy Spirit. Perhaps God is wanting to do something more.

Revival can mean different things. It can be the salvation ofmany people, an unstoppable move of prayer and worship, a fresh release of miracles, or the presence of God being sostrong that people cannot stand up. Perhaps it means all of these things.

A POURING OUT

On the day of Pentecost, Peter explained what was happening.He quoted from the Old Testament.

“IN THE LAST DAYS, GOD SAYS,

I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT

 ON ALL PEOPLE.” ACTS 1:17

The Scripture does not say that God will sprinkle His Spirit or dab His Spirit, but rather, that He will pour out His Spirit on allpeople. I picture a coach being drenched with Gatorade after winning the final game of the season. The players come upbehind him and soak him. They pour the entire  bucket of juice over him.

If God pours out His Holy Spirit on you, it will be overwhelming. It will be a baptism, a complete emersion. The experience is more than a feeling of God’s inner  presence; it is a drenching in the Spirit that profoundly changes everything.

Many Christians that I know, look back to a time when they experienced revival. They were so impacted by the experience that it set them up for life. While a continuous walk withthe Holy Spirit is a must for every disciple, we love it when the Lord shakes things up andpours out His Spirit in unpredictable, more powerful ways.

Oh Lord, give us revival. Let a Holy Spirit revival flood the USA and let it go out from here to the nations.
