THE BEAUTIFUL NAME

In our culture we do not like to do anything in somebody else’s name. Policemen may arrest you in the name of the Law, and Ambassadors working for the government may represent our nation in the name of the United States of America. It is not our way, however, to do things in the name of another person. Doing things in Jesus’ name, nevertheless, rises higher than everything else. We are called to do things in Jesus’ name. This is not just important; it is commanded. This is the modus operandi for disciples. Everything we do and say is to be done in His name. Our lives are not ours but His, so we should reflect Him, represent Him and draw people to Him. Paul said, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God” Gal. 2:20. “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus” Col. 3:17.

SALVATION

Jesus’ name represents who He is, and what He has done. He is the Messiah, the Creator, our Savior and our King. He is God, and when we say we believe in His name, we are saying that we believe that He is all of those things and much more. Only in Jesus’ name can a person be saved from judgment, the penalty of sin and from hell. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” Acts 4:12. Salvation only comes in Jesus’ name.

HIS NAME HAS BENEFITS

Salvation is only the beginning of benefits that come to us in Jesus’ name. After salvation we learn to believe in the power of His name; we call on His name in time of need, and we carry His name with us throughout the day. With other believers, we gather in His name, we are sanctified by His name, baptized in His name, we pray in His name, welcome others in His name, give a cup of water in His name, preach in His name, and do every kind of supernatural ministry in His name. “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons…they will place their hands on sick people and they will recover” Mk. 16:17-18.

THE HIGHEST NAME

Jesus has always been above all things, He created all things, all things belong to Him and are held together by Him. Even though He is God and has need of nothing, He humbled Himself and became a man. He died to remove the judgment of sin for all who believe in His name. Because He did this, the Father exalted Him and gave Him a name above every other name. He earned the right of authority over all of this a second time. Jesus has the highest, most powerful name in the universe. “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord” Php. 2:9-11.

To be given the highest name means that everyone and everything is under His power and at the right time, after everyone has the opportunity to believe on His name, then everyone will bow their knee and confess Him as Lord. Those who are not willing will still have do it and then be condemned. “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” Jn. 3:18.

THE HOLY NAME

The Lord’s Prayer begins with “Our Father who art in heaven, holy (Hallowed) is your name.” Mary prophesied and said, “The Mighty One has done great things for me – holy is his name” Lk. 1:49. Holy means to be divine, righteous and perfect in every way, with no sin or impurity of any kind. God’s name is holy; it is to be worshipped and held to the highest level of adoration. We should not use His name in vain or treat it casually or with disrespect. We worship the name of the Lord.

THE KINDEST NAME

Jesus teaches us to give a glass of water in the name of the Lord. That is perhaps the least expensive gift that one might give, yet given in the name of the Lord, it carries a reward in return. How much more will gifts of abundance bless those who give, when they are given in Jesus’ name. We do it as representatives of Christ in the honor of His name.

Likewise, if we welcome little children in His name we will be blessed. The Lord says it is like welcoming Him and He rewards those who do this. “And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me” Mt. 18:5.

THE MOST POWERFUL NAME

Casting out demons, healing the sick and having your prayers answered can all happen because of the power of Jesus’ name. There are other conditions such as being in God’s will, forgiving others and praying in faith, but when the conditions are met we often see God’s miraculous power released. Every time we pray, we pray in Jesus’ name, even when we give thanks at meals we always do it in Jesus’ name. There is power in the name of Jesus and when we employ His name in the beauty of holiness and with the faith to believe in the power of His name, then miracles follow.

GIVE US HIS NAME

In Luke chapter 10 Jesus sends His disciples out two-by-two and He gives them His name to minister to everyone they meet. They return with an amazing report: “The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name” Lk. 10:17.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower when needs arise. Jesus’ name is absolutely beautiful as we witness His glory. The blessings of His name surround us at all times. They provide for us and lead us into partnership with heaven. When Jesus returns, we’ll see Him with the names, “The Word of God,” “King of kings”, and “Lord of lords” (Rev. 18:13, 16). He comes to finish His plans with a name that is above every other name.

Until that day, Jesus gives us four amazing blessings to walk in His power and purpose. He gives us His Word, His angels, His name and His Holy Spirit. We are so grateful for all the blessings of God that are found in His name.  May we walk in step with Heaven and do all things in the name of the Lord.
